Let's Talk Trash!

As of January 1, 2016, Orange County Utilities Department is requiring all residents to utilize the newly delivered 95-gallon receptacles for their automated "Green-Clean" Residential Curbside Collection Program. Under the new program, garbage, recycling, and yard waste will be collected only once a week. Between April 1, 2016 and May 31, 2016, a one-time size change can be arranged by calling the Solid Waste Hotline at 407-836-6601 or sending an email to [email protected]. Roll cart size changes after May 31, 2016, will incur a charge equivalent to the cost of a new cart.

For more program information, visit www.ocfl.net/greenClean2016, call the Solid Waste Hotline at 407-836-6601, or email [email protected].

All garbage, recycling, and yard waste is not to be put out any earlier than 5:00 p.m. the evening prior to a scheduled pick-up day and stored by 7:00 p.m. the same day.

All trash receptacles and recycling bins must be stored out of sight (i.e.: in garage, behind an approved outdoor closure). Refer to your By-Laws and Covenants and Guidelines for details. Remember, if you wish to install a refuse enclosure, you must submit a completed ARB Application with all the required information and receive written approval by the Board prior to installation.

The Orange County pick-up schedule for Dean's Reserve is as follows:
Picture
  • Garbage and Recycling - Monday only - both garbage and recycling must be placed out by 6:00 a.m. on this day. All garbage must be placed in the provided 95-gallon green lid roll cart and all recycling must be placed in the 95-gallon blue lid roll cart.
  • Yard Waste - Tuesday only.
USING YOUR ROLL CARTS
  • Place your roll carts at the curb no earlier than 6:00 p.m. the night before and no later than 6:00 a.m. on collection day. Put away emptied carts on the same day.
  • There should be about three feet of clearance around each cart placed curbside in order for the trucks to use the mechanical arm.
  • The carts should be placed away from your mailbox, parked cars, and low-hanging tree limbs.
  • The handles should be facing your house.

YARD WASTE TIPS
Yard waste includes vegetative landscaping material as well as grass, tree, and shrub trimmings, and should not be placed in the garbage or recycling roll cart.
  • Limit yard waste to three cubic yards (about one small pickup truckload) per household per week.
  • Use your own garbage cans or plastic bags for collection. Cans and bags must be 50 gallons or less and weigh less than 60 pounds each when full. Cans must be waterproof with a tight-fitting lid and have handles on the sides.
  • Don't mix yard waste with garbage.
  • Bundle limbs, palm fronds, and similar items with string. Keep bundles three feet long or less. Limit weight to less than 60 pounds.
  • Live Christmas trees can be set out at the curb on your yard waste collection day for recycling. Trees over six feet should be cut in half. Remove all ornaments, decorations, and stands before placing at the curb. Artificial trees are not collected with yard waste.

LARGE ITEM PICK-UP
Residents who need to dispose of large items that will not fit in the roll cart must call the Solid Waste Hotline at 407-836-6601 to arrange for pickup.
  • Large items include furniture, appliances, mattresses, automobile tires (limit 4), and rear-projection televisions.
  • Limit large items to three cubic yards (about one small pickup truckload) per household per week.

OLD GARBAGE CANS AND RECYCLE BINS
What do I do with my old (green and orange) recycling bins and garbage cans?
The County encourages you to use your garbage cans for yard waste and recycling bins for other household purposes. You may call the Solid Waste Hotline to arrange for recycling of any unwanted bins or cans.

HOLIDAY COLLECTION
Collection will be provided as scheduled on all holidays except Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. When Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day fall on a regular scheduled collection day, collection will be one day after the normally scheduled collection day for the rest of the week.

CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING
Live Christmas trees can be set out at the curb on your yard waste collection day for recycling. Trees over six feet should be cut in half. Remove all ornaments, decorations, and stands before placing at the curb. Artificial trees are not collected with yard waste.
